Most people might be unfamiliar with Bohemian Design, but actually, Bohemian Design is everywhere and gaining more and more popularity. For example in Indonesia. Nowadays, a lot of cafes and coffee shops are applying Bohemian Design.
Bohemian Design is unique and dynamic, since the concept of the design is to create an artistic room. So we as interior designer are using the room as a canvas to create an art piece. There’s no particular foundation in creating Bohemian Design, as is in art, it all depends on the taste and creativity of each individual. That is why most people doesn’t even realize the style when they look into a Bohemian Design.
Truth is, Bohemian Design might has some characteristics that differ it from other interior design styles. When you enter a room with Bohemian Design, you will have your attention directed into the details of the room. Different elements in one room creating apparent contrast which make the room look artistic. Usually there are neutral solid colors, black and white for the background, and the furniture and decorations are in lighter colors, contrast to the background. Just like a painting on a blank canvas.
Furniture
One of the most important thing in Bohemian Design is the variety of the furniture, and tend to place more decorations and ornaments in the room. Of course the choice of furniture should be artistic and have historical value, it tells story of it’s own, or at least looks historical.
Each furniture also has its own additional decoration item, such as pillows on the sofa or vase on the table. Some antiques such as clock, old radio, paintings, statues or even gramophone will fit perfectly into Bohemian Design.
Another characteristic of Bohemian Design is the placement of the furniture which placed in lower posiition, such as sofa and matress are closer to the floor, almost touching the floor. This placement method creates more relax vibe in the room, since you have more room to stretch your body.
Accent
