Design Theme
Scandinavian Design, also known as Nordic Design, is a interior design style focusing on simplicity and functionality. It may seems not so different from Modern Design, the main difference is in the accent and furniture design. Scandinavian Design use natural material to create a profound warmnth and comfortable vibe.
The color use in Scandinavian Design is neutral light color, dominated by white for background, walls, while accent and furniture is using light colored wooden material. Lighting also very crucial. You want as much as natural light as possible. Use more larger size windows in every part of the room, so more sunlight will enter and spread across the room, even to the farthest corners.
Furniture
The furniture is mostly made using light colored wooden material. Although sometimes Scandinavian Design can be too minimalist, some details can add some depth to the design. These details can be found in the furniture. Or we can use wooden flooring with strong vines.
Again, in designing custom furniture its impotant to focus on the functinality and simpliticy, left a good amount of free space in the room. Mix solid colors with wood material. For example, dining table with wooden top table with solid white body, or you can reverse it as well.
Scandinavian Design is truly meant to create comfortable and homey vibe. In the modern practice, furniture and decoratives sometimes use metal to add some luxury touch to balanced the homey vibe of Scandinavian Design.
Accent
Adding some colors in the room can add a touch of freshness. Those colors can be in a form of decoratives or ornament, and plants to add some more natural element. Paintings and photographs is really good complementary decoration too, just use neutral color for the frame to maintain the ‘simplicity’.
